Ina Garten Potato Salad Recipe

Ina Garten is an American author and a successful host of the Food Network program called Barefoot Contessa. Though she has no special training, Ina Garten worked in the White House Office of Management and Budget during the presidency of Ford and Carter. She taught herself techniques with the help of French and New England cookbooks.

 

Ingredients of Ina Garten Potato Salad Recipe

  • 3 pounds small red potatoes
  • 1 cup good mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons whole-grain mustard
  • cup chopped fresh dill
  • ¼ cup buttermilk, white wine or pure milk
  • chopped red onion
  • cup chopped celery
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Kosher salt

 

Direction

To make Ina Garten potato salad recipe, place the small red potatoes and 2 tablespoons of salt in a large pot of water. Boil the content and lower the heat after boiling. Simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes until the potatoes become tender when pierced with a knife. Drained the tender potatoes in a colander and place it over the pot. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and allow the potatoes to simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together a cup of good mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, a teaspoonful of salt, whole-grain mustard, a teaspoon of pepper, chopped fresh dill and buttermilk.

Set the mixture aside and allow it to rest for about 10 to 20 minutes.

When the potatoes are cool enough to handle, cut them into small pieces either into halves or quarters, depending on their size. Place the cut potatoes in a clean large bowl and make sure you pour enough dressing over them to retain its moisture while they are still warm. Watch over the salads, and as they sit, you may need to add more dressing depending on your choice.

Add the remaining ingredients, which are chopped celery, 1 teaspoon of pepper, chopped red onion and 2 teaspoons of salt. Note:

If using the chopped fresh, taste the salad for correct seasoning. You may use about 1/2 the salt in the boiling water than what the recipe calls for and you may add more salt if you desire afterward. You may also choose to omit the Dijon and use all grainy mustard for the good texture. Green onions can also be used instead of red onions for taste. Mixing the salads more often while in the refrigerator and for about two days, and the dressing flavor will come through without the much salty flavor.
